PACQUIAO vs MOSLEY: MY SCORECARD

Tonight at MGM Las Vegas, a showdown between two powerful boxers would certainly keep the world awake. Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao against Sugar Shane Mosley, what is in my scorecard before the big fight. I am a Manny Pacquiao fanatic and I followed his boxing career since 1994. I was so disappointed when he was beaten by a Thai boxer before, but even then I have always been on his side regardless of who he fights. Having said that, I watched all his fights through live telecast or pay per view. When so constricted with my time, I always make sure I could see the replay. I don’t want to miss every single action that my idol displayed in his fights. I am never content to only hear, the good news or perhaps the bad news. I want to see it as it happened.
As always, Pacquiao trained extremely and his preparation is extensive and massive. Freddie Roach is well satisfied with Manny’s dedication and discipline. With four to five rounds of sparring everyday, he is at his top form to win this battle. In fairness to Mosley, he also prepared this biggest fight of his life and he is focused to knock out Pacquiao at the early rounds of the bout. At this point, no one is a clear winner although Mosley is considered the underdog, he can always stage an upset. Pacquaio on the other hand does not show overconfidence in spite of the favourable analysis from most sports critics.

Manny 'PACMAN' Pacquiao, considered the sports hero of the Philippines

Filipinos and the world have another big event to look forward to next Month. On May 7, 2011, Manny Pacquiao, the Philippines sports hero, will climb into the boxing arena again to prove his power against the much bigger opponent and highly regarded Shane Mosley. Manny Pacquiao or simply ‘PACMAN’ earned the admiration of boxing fans by collecting eight championship belts in eight divisions. His last battle against Antonio Margarito was the best fight to remember when he demonstrated in 12 exciting rounds why he deserves to be called the best pound-for-pound boxer of the world.

I used to know Manny Pacquiao as an ordinary person who aside from doing professional boxing, was also a very good billiard player. If my memory serves me right, it was between 1998-2004 when I could always spot him playing in one of Davao City’s ( Davao is a progressive city of southern Philippines) billiard halls along Bolton Street.

Annoyed over unconstructive tweets stormed at his twitter account, the best pound for pound boxer of the world succumbed to his first knock out defeat in the hands of anonymous haters online. Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino pride, a credible politician, and the greatest sports hero of the Philippines, adored by millions of people around the world, was unfortunately beaten to shame by his own people with malicious messages and deleterious criticisms at the social network twitter.


It is so unimaginable that in spite of Pacman’s honour and credit given to the country, there are many mal-educated people who,out of envy and insecurity, enjoy maligning his reputation as if he had committed grave offence. Whilst it is a fact that Manny Pacquiao has weaknesses as a person, his political will is genuine and only aimed at helping his constituents and compatriots. Yet the barrage of belittling is absolutely uncalled for especially that Manny has done better than most of his colleagues in congress.
